Quick question.

Do you like the title Final Damnation or The Hands of the Devil?

Here’s the description for my new book.

Tom is a ghost hunter and a good one at that. He is a man without morals, without laws, a one man do-it-yourself kind of guy. Then the devil shows up, and Tom finds he is now face to face with pure evil. This sends Tom on a journey that will bring him into contact with all of those he has loved and lost throughout the years. He will reconnect with his ex wives, his kids, and himself. He will explore a side of himself that he never thought existed while the devil tries to regain the soul he is losing. In the end Tom must face down the devil or succumb to a fiery eternal damnation. Win or lose. Tom has no choice but to fight.

Now, the opening.

It stood in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by desert, and just off a rarely used two lane road. A road that hadn’t been paved in a long time with faded solid lines, patched up holes, and age creeping up to its outer edges in the form of high weeds and grass. Golden yellow lights splashed out of its windows and glass filled door. It was a shiny, round, and circular diner – a forgotten silver object lost in time. You could almost see Sam Spade sitting in one of the booths having a cup of Joe while thinking over his latest case.

A figure appears from out of thin air in the small area of shadows on the darkest side of this diner. He’s dressed in black shoes, black three piece suit, black tie, black fedora, and a black coat. He shakes off the cold, missing the warmth of his fiery home, ready to be done with this meeting. Today, he wants to look older and wiser, ready for business. He has aged himself to the age of sixty with short hair and wrinkled features.  A doorbell clangs, as a lonely trucker, unwashed and unshaved, ready for a quick meal, steps inside the small building. The devil follows after him.

Haiku – Writer’s Pain

Common sense says quit

My passion will not listen

Obsession rules me

+

Do any of you writers reading this feel like banging your head against a wall? I know you do. We all feel the same way each day. I wrote this Haiku this morning after feeling like no matter what I do in the writing world it will never matter. I will never catch that break. I love to write, but it really does feel like a curse some days.

Cover Reveal for Joyride and Demon Energy is free to read on 7/1 and 7/2

Just wanted to reveal the new cover for Joyride, which will be re-releasing next Friday (7/10/2015).

I also wanted a bit of help with it. Trying to figure out which cover works better.

This story is about two boys who take a Joyride only to find out that evil lurks once they turn the key.

1.

joyrideJ

2.

joyride2

I’m leaning more towards 1 myself. That 666 just gives it a little more creepy factor. Just me though.

Simply, drop a 1 or 2 in the comments below. Shouldn’t take up too much of your time.

I also have Demon Energy running free on 7/1 and 7/2. Run over and grab your copy today.

That’s it. Thanks for the help.

Haiku – Just Before The Dawn

Short story re-writes

I wake in my warm soft bed

To answer the call

+

I’ve been working on a collection of short stories that I hope to release before Halloween. I do have a pretty cool cover for it already that you may or may not have seen already.

Nightlight Tales - High Resolution

James is the designer of the cover and his work can be found here: http://www.goonwrite.com/index.htm

Before I leave you, here are a couple of things related to the title of this Haiku.

This is a solid slasher movie from the Eighties – one I still own on DVD. Cheap, creepy, and a great score.

A great song from the mighty Judas Priest – this is a ballad by them.

Haiku – Early Morning Re-Write and A Quick Sneek Peek at Hellfire and Brimstone

Warming up the eyes

Brain wakes up from deep slumber

Creating time starts

+

Here’s another quick peek at what I have been re-writing. Again, this is raw data, and it still needs a spell check, another read through, and possibly more changes. However, I thought you might find it interesting to read.

So, here’s a bit of Hellfire and Brimstone (title may change at a later date):

“What did you find?”

Eric was ready to be done with Tom, and Tom decided to feel the same way. Skeptics will always be skeptics even when they come face to face with the truth, which Tom was about to show him. He grabbed his camera and hooked it up to the TV.  He took the tape currently in the unit out and put in the one he had when he did his first walk-through.  He rewound the tape and sat down beside Eric.

“I caught a few things as I did my first walk around the house.  Some things are probably easily explained once I look at it further, but just to give you some idea I will show you what I found.” Tom began going through the tape.  He stopped at one point. “This is when I was walking through the upstairs hall.  You will see back towards the end of it something white, with a strange form, move out of view.  You have to look quick, but it is there.” Tom played the tape and smiled inside when he saw Eric’s eyes light up with fear.

“What was that?”

“I don’t know. Could have been a passing car, could have been a trick of the camera, it could have been anything, but I think we both know what it really was. ” Tom moved the tape forward.  He was now in the master bedroom, scanning the room.  A dark shape appears as he scans. Tom spins the camera back to the spot where he saw it, but it’s too late.  The shape is gone.  A noise behind him and then beside him, on top of him.  Tom turns, spins, and tries to catch the activity, but nothing appears on the camera. All he catches are noises. “That went on for like four minutes and then stopped.  Noises all around the room, but nothing revealed itself after I saw the shape.”

“I see why you drink.  So, nothing with the devil, right?”

Tom looked at him. “What?”

Feel free to let me know what you thought about it? Would you like to see more of this story in the future?

Haiku – Groggy Eyes and A Sneak Peek at My Latest Novel

I awoke from sleep

Small brain break is now over

Re-write time again

+

For those interested, here’s one of my favorite passages from the new book. The re-write still needs work, so what you read isn’t final at all. It is a just a taste of what I have been working on with my latest novel.

+

Once inside, Tom could see people scattered across the pews praying and kneeling before their Lord. As he walked and looked at them, kneeling or sitting there in the light gloom of the church, their heads changed – turned – morphed – into the heads of sheep. Then their eyes suddenly lit up with red light, and these sheep heads turned to stare at Tom. From somewhere in the back of the church he heard a dark and evil sounding – “BAAAAAAAA!”

Tom stopped, turned, and looked to the back of the church. The devil was standing there in his dark angel form. He pointed at Tom, gave him the thumbs up, smiled, and then poofed out.

+

The lead character Tom Never is a wayward sole, lost his faith at a young age. This story is about him finding himself again, the church, and reconnecting with those he left out of his life all the while trying to fend off the devil. I wrote it years ago around the time I got baptized. The story kind of popped in there when I was preparing to become a Christian. I plan to chase agents for a bit with this one and if it doesn’t work out then I will self-publish it. One way or the other, I will get it out. I believe this is probably my best work.

How about a little Christian Heavy Metal to close this post?

Haiku – No Sleep for Writers

Rewrite pulls me up

Wakes me from peaceful slumber

Day starting early

+

Curious, fellow writers, what time of day works best for you? Are you a morning person like me or do you work best at other times of the day? Once my son gets up, and we start our day, if it doesn’t happen early or at nap time then by bed time I am a no go. Usually the couch and sleep are the only things I want once 7 at night rolls around.

Today’s Kindle News (hangs head with painful shameful self promotion)

I honestly don’t like doing stuff like this, but it is part of the self published world we live in.  Trying to get your name out there is the hardest thing to do.  So, here I am trying to do just that, get my name out there.   Below you will find my latest attempt at being the author I always dreamed of being.

First up:

Free stuff on Kindle just for today – 6/6/2014.  We all like free stuff don’t we.   I know I do.  My wife works, I stay home with the baby, so free is a four letter word I use a lot – I try not to use other four letter words around my son, believe me it is tough.

Okay, so where was I?  Yeah, free stuff.  Here it is below.

Joyride:

A Short Story about 2 young men who decide to take a “joyride” late one night and the evil they encounter.

Review:

“I’m not into cars at all, but enjoyed this short horror story about two young men and the “evil” car they take for a ride.”

The Living Sand:

A Short Story about two boys who discover a hidden beach and the evil secrets that it holds.

Review:

“Told in a brilliant way, this creepy tale about the adventures of two young boys and the horror they discover makes a good short story.”

The Imp:

A short story about a haunted house, and the secrets and legends it holds. Does a magical imp live there, able to grant riches? 5 students on Halloween night set out to discover if the legends are true about the town’s most haunted of houses.

Review:

Sadly none, but I am holding out hope.

So, that’s the free stuff.

I do have a Kindle Countdown Deal going on with this book:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00GUS3K58

I’m not real clear about how the Countdown Deal works, but I know it starts at 99 cents and goes up from there.  This is the only novel I have published on Amazon.

In non selling news.  I did update a couple of covers on Amazon.  Check out their fancy new duds below.

I’m really digging that Zombie Christmas one – looks ominous, like an old B movie poster.  Yeah, I am painfully aware it has no Christmas at all in the picture.

Okay, those who have ventured to this part of the page.  I appreciate it.  If you have any Kindle stuff to hock or any stuff to hock at all no matter what site it is on, feel free to hock it out in the comments below.  I love to help in any way that I can to help further our self published hopes.

Query letters fly

Hopes and dreams riding along

With the e-mailed word

Time to do the hardest part of my writing job, contacting agents, trying to get this book published.  I can write over a hundred thousand words for a novel, but that one little query letter is the thing that gets me the most.  I just can’t nail it down, can’t make it ring and sing.  Here’s to hoping this one will work.  Fingers crossed.

The rest in this series starts here: http://wp.me/p2kmxm-339

By the way, 2 years ago I started this blog, can’t believe it has been that long.  Thanks to all of you who follow, comment, and like the things I do.  It is appreciated.

Haiku – Author 17

My eye lids open

Cold morning greets my body

Time to go to work

It seems like I have been living with this current book of mine for a long time now.  I am now on the finishing stages of it, the read through, which is probably the easiest part.  The hard part though is getting motivated.  I just feel like it is done, because it technically is.  At this stage I feel like I’ve tweaked it enough that it is ready for the world, but I read through it one more time just to make sure, just to make sure it is.
